High altitude, snow-sure and duty free!

Livigno has had a chequered history! Originally established as a prison colony due to its isolation it now enjoys a tax free status! Livigno is a superb all-round resort that offers high altitude, sunny skiing, plenty of entertainment and affordable accommodation. Lying in the stunning Valtellina alpine valley near the Swiss border, Livigno boasts a modern lift system and well prepared pistes whilst retaining the traditional character of its three original villages.

The extensive skiing in Livigno is split on both sides of the valley; to the east are the connected Carosello and Costaccia areas, where there are beginner runs at the foot of the slopes and more challenging runs higher up. Access is from two gondolas, one of which is the Carosello 3000 located next to one of our hotels. On the opposite side of the valley is the Mottolino area accessed by the gondola of the same name.

The skiing on both sides of the valley offer snow sure, high altitude thrills where the excellent ski school makes learning fun and progressive. In our opinion this is an excellent resort both on and off the snow – the long journey is a negative but is more than compensated for during your stay. Fortunately, groups that have travelled with us feel the same!

Accommodation

Hotel Loredana

3 Star

The hotel is located in the area of Teole, just 100m from the nearest chair lift and 400m from the Mottolino Gondola - a short bus ride or walk. Skis can be stored at the base of the gondola station.

Family run by the Bormolini family, the hotel has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The rooms are for 2-4 persons and all are en-suite with TV and safe. The hotel has a meeting room with table tennis and table football to amuse the group after skiing. There is a capacity of 80 persons and so the Loredana is ideal for a large group seeking sole occupancy.

Hotel Sporting

This hotel has a capacity for 45 persons and is located just 50m from the Carosello 3000 gondola. Also family run by the Bormolinis, the Sporting is well run with owner Guido extending a warm welcome to our groups. Rooms are for 2-4 persons and all are en-suite. There is a large bar area and sunny terrace. The restaurant enjoys an excellent reputation and is open to the public.

It is possible, by prior arrangement to have 3 days with hot lunch and 2/3 days with packet lunch from either hotel to be able to enjoy the skiing on both sides of the valley.

Hotel Interalpen

4 Star

As the name suggests this hotel is located between the high peaks at the summit of the Passo Foscagna at 2100m. It has a capacity of 76 persons in well appointed en-suite rooms for 2-4 persons. Meals are half board with a packed lunch and a choice for dinner. The public areas are spacious and here is a small swimming pool, built into the rock, for hotel guests.

The hotel has an isolated location and so the bus would be necessary for daily transfers to the slopes and for evening activities in the resort. The transfer time is approximately 20 minutes to the Mottolino gondola.
