French Alps
Just one hour from Geneva and set amidst stunning scenery the medieval town of Annecy provides the setting for our alpine studies. Located at the head of the glacial Lac d’Annecy the town has a quaint pedestrian centre and yet is a busy industrial and administrative centre for the region.
Within easy reach of our base in Sevrier, locations such as Chamonix, La Clusaz and Albertville are all possible destinations for our study units. There are a wide range of investigations that are possible in the region, together with leisure activities that ensures a happy balance between work and play. We would recommend that groups travel between May and October.
Excursions
Day 1: Arrive in Sevrier. According to time it may be possible to do a local study activity. Settle in and dinner.
Day 2: Visit Annecy. Shopping hierarchy study, tourism questionnaire - in French of course! Possible boat trip on the Lake and/or a trip to the Gorges du Fier. Eve: Bowling
Day 3: This is it! Chamonix - glaciers and tourism inextricably mixed. About 1-2 hours from base there is plenty to see and do. Aguille du Midi and Mont Blanc, Mer de Glace. Sphere of influence study. Honey-pot site. A long day but a memorable one! Eve: Quiz
Day 4: Slope studies or settlement studies in Les Saisies and Hauteluce - two traditional Alpine villages. Eve: Pizza night.
Day 5: A local morning study, relaxation or shopping before lunch. Depart for the UK.
While popular, this itinerary is indicative and entirely flexible; any programme will reflect the group leader's preference and can be of any duration and emphasis.
